Human Organisation for Pioneering in Education (HOPE) is a non-governmental organization (NGO), registered No. MAH- 724 / Public Trust Registered No. F-1990 (Pune). It was founded in 1974 by late Sr. Noelline Pinto of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod in Vadgaon Sheri, Pune, where it is still located today. From the very beginning until today HOPE's main focus is the overall development and empowerment of women.
The Scope of Hope
Our main goal is to work for social transformation through the enablement of underprivileged Indian women and children. Built on the premises that the poor remain poor because of lack of education, awareness and opportunities which make them the victims of an oppressive and exploitative society – the thrust of HOPE is education, albeit the non formal one. The long term goal is societal transformation, making every endeavor to create a just and humane society. The family is the building block of society and in the family the woman plays a vital and pivotal role; hence the focus in this work is the woman.
“To educate a woman is to educate a family and to educate a family is to educate a community and a community is the foundation stone of a society.” Sr. Noelline Pinto
HOPE’s team consists of professional social workers, field animators, advocates and teachers as well as numerous volunteers and helpers. It is headed by Adv. Sr. Flory Menezes. HOPE is self-dependent and supported by donations and in-kind contributions.
